Kevin Dowd concentrates his national law practice in every facet of commercial real estate from project conception to disposition of the completed project. He has over 30 years of experience in several corporate and private legal settings serving in a number of senior leadership roles. His experiences are unique among other real estate legal practitioners having been an attorney for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, a private practice real estate attorney, general counsel for a real estate development company, and in-house counsel for the registered investment advisor of a global bank. Kevin brings a wealth of sophisticated, institutional and real estate knowledge leveraged by a practical approach to problem solving. Kevin combines strong leadership skills and strategic thinking with an integrity driven approach that drives business results for his clients.
Prior to joining Harrington Law in October, 2021, Kevin had a successful career at UBS Realty Investors LLC (“UBS Realty”), a subsidiary of UBS Group AG, serving as In-house Counsel & Executive Director for nine years. UBS Realty is a registered investment advisor with direct ownership of real estate properties on behalf of private investment clients. UBS Realty manages three private real estate investment funds and four individual client relationships which contain over 500 real property assets located throughout the U.S. with an aggregate asset value in excess of $30B. Kevin served as counsel for all these funds and its investors providing extensive guidance on daily operational matters and long-term strategies. He was also lead in-house counsel to two industrial warehouse joint ventures with two national industrial warehouse development partners and these portfolios had a net aggregate asset value of approximately $3B.
Prior to joining UBS, Kevin created the Legal Department for Developers Realty Corporation (“DRC”), a privately held real estate development company based in West Hartford, Connecticut which focused on shopping center development, ownership, and management of retail properties throughout the Eastern United States. There, Kevin served as General Counsel & Senior Vice President for fourteen years. He was directly involved in all aspects of the creation and operation of 2 million square feet of new “ground-up” retail projects over a ten-year period. At the time of Kevin’s departure, DRC owned 40 shopping centers located across nine states and comprised approximately 4 million square feet.
Kevin spent ten years in private law practice with two different banking and real estate law firms located in Hartford, Connecticut where he created and managed a highly active and varied real estate, transactional, development and lending practice working with shopping center developers, numerous national and state commercial lenders, and multiple corporate clients.
Kevin started his legal career as a staff attorney with the General Counsel’s Office of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in Manhattan. Kevin and his colleagues provided critical support during “Black Monday” (October 19, 1987) by supplying the necessary legal guidance to member banks to pump liquidity into the banking system and stock markets to prevent further dramatic declines across all equity markets. At the New York Fed, Kevin’s main responsibilities included the oversight of member banks of the Federal Reserve System with respect to regulatory compliance and enforcement of violations of Federal Banking Laws.
